Darksouls 3 Ashes of Ariendel DLC Sister Friede Fight
Fight Rewards
Sister Friede is a boss in the ashes of Ariendel DLC meaning that she is an optional boss to get any of the four main game endings. Though of course there is still reasons to fight her. Once you kill her you'll get her boss soul which you can use to either get Friede's Great Scythe or the Rose of Ariandel in Firelink shrine.
Friede's Great Scythe
The Great Scythe is the same one that she uses again you in the boss fight. It's paired meaning that it's two scythes in one that you can either duel wield or use with a shield or whatever you'd want to use. The Scythe deals a base 110 physical damage and 77 magical damage. Although the magical damage is only applied while using the weapon art. The scythe has 45 frost damage just like Friede's scythe in the fight. To use it requires 12 strength, 16 dex, 12 int and 11 faith. Once the scythe is upgraded all the way to 5+, meaning you've upgraded it five times. Normal weapons can be upgraded to 10+ but all boss weapons are only able to go to 5+ because of their enhanced damage and abilities. Once to 5+, and not counting damage bonuses on rings or with skills it will deal 200 physical damage and 140 magical damage. The weapon art of the Scythe is the frost attack that Friede will use in the fight. Either a strong attack to dash forward, or two short attacks to stay still, creating a blanket of frost across the ground, causing frost damage then exploding to cause magical damage.
Rose of Ariendel
The Rose of Ariendel is the second weapon that you can get from Friede's boss soul and it's a fairly unique weapon. It's a whip that is also able to cast miracles it has a base damage of 79 and a bleed of 33. Making the second weakest whip in the game, though luckily the ability to cast miracles with it sure does help it's case. It is a boss weapon so also can only be upgraded to 5+ with a base damage of 140 and a bleed of 34. The weapon has no strong attacks, cause that's the button for casting miracles. In the item description the Rose of Ariendel is classified as a Flail, so it have a move set more like a small club than a whip. Unlike other whips it can not riposte or backstab. Though, like other whips all of it's attacks can not be parried, making it good for pvp. As for the miracle side of the Rose, it's Spell Buff is 100, which is fairly normal for Talismans and Sacred Chimes, which you would normally cast miracles with. If your faith is leveled all the way to 40 the spell buff is 189. It'd be a very good replacement for a Talisman if you're doing a Miracle/Dex build. The weapon art for the Rose is called Awakening, and to quote the Item description "Violently flail oneself to trigger an awakening that temporarily boosts the strength of miracles, just as the good Father used the rose himself." The weapon art will deal you damage, that will boost the strength of miracles in a nutshell.
How to get to the Boss Fight
Fighting Friede is at the very end of the Ashes of Ariendel DLC. To get to the DLC zone in the first place you'll first have to get to the Cleansing Chapel bonfire in the Cathedral of the Deep zone. Once there you'll see Knight Slave Gael, go through his dialog and select yes when it comes up. One small cut scene later you'll be brought to Painted World Ariendel. From the bonfire you'll want to go straight to a wall, turn right then run as far as you go. You'll either have to fight the Follower Enemies while running or simply run past them if you dont want to deal with them. Once you run far enough the ground will collapse, but dont worry you wont feel any fall damage. From here you'll be in an area with wolves who are fairly difficult enemies, but are very weak to fire damage. Now there's two ways you can go here depending on how comfortable you are or how good your build it. You can either go straight, till a giant wolf falls down. You'll want to run past him and some small wolves but once you pass him far enough he'll disappear. Now you'll be in an area with wolves and Milwood Knights, who are huge dude with horned helmets that will destroy you if you aren't careful, you can either kill them all, or run past then onto the next path. Run far enough and the ground will collapse again, walk a little ways more and you'll find a bonfire.
The second way to get to the bonfire is when the ground very first collapses the first time instead of going straight go left, run past wolves and trees, yeah trees. Some of the Trees in the DLC will either try and set you on fire or blow frost at you, be careful of that. So run past all those guys and you'll find a bridge. Looking towards the bring turn right and you'll see little cave, go in there and you'll see the same bonfire. Now once you go to the bridge there will be a church and Sister Friede, dont worry though. At this point she's a passive NPC. Once you go through the rest of Ariendel you'll be able to go into a secret room from the church and fight her.
The Fight
Now for the fight you are able to summon three summons, if you use the Dried Finger which is an item that allows you to summon one extra summon. And you can summon Gael, his summon does not take up a summon slot. But he will only be summoned for the 2nd phase of the fight though will stay around for the third if he's still alive. Now during the first phase of the fight she can be riposted and backstabbed. She'll have a base health of 4,863 with a weakness to Bleed, Dark, and lightning. She's very easy to take down if you have a few summons and catch her in a corner, you can just take her down. Once she's dead will start the second part of the boss fight. The big guy in the chair Ariendel will get up with a huge bowl, pouring lava all over the ground at times, and smashing the ground with the bowl. You can take him out easy by going behind his chair and doing heavy attacks. At this same time Friede will be back up, she'll be much more mobile thing time, spinning and sprinting across the room. Doing that frost weapon art that we spoke about before. They share the same health bar, and overall dealing damage to Ariendel does more damage. Once you kill them you'll get a titanite slab just to make you feel like you've finished. But then starts the last phase Black Flame Friede. She'll act pretty much like she did the last round with 6,864 health, dealing dark and frost damage. With new attacks, she'll spin up in the are and come down with an AoE that will either do dark or frost damage. And sometimes will shoot a beam of dark damage as well. In this phase she can also be backstabbed and riposted but it is much harder as she moves more. You should be careful in this phase as it takes a while to get him, just hit at her health, be careful about it and you should be able to get her. Once you kill her, if you have the Ringed City Dlc there will be two bonfires in the room. One in the middle which is the normal bonfire. Then one at the very end which will take you to the Ringed City Dlc zone if you have it.
